Ottawa is broken, and it’s time to fix it
New Democrats launch election campaign to elect Jack Layton as Prime Minister
March 26, 2011
OTTAWA - New Democrat Leader Jack Layton launched the New Democrat election campaign today with a direct appeal to Canadians to choose a Prime Minister they can trust.
“Stephen Harper promised to fix what’s wrong in Ottawa. Instead he made things worse. As Prime Minister, I’ll ensure Ottawa gets down to work for Canadian families,” Layton said.
Layton slammed Harper’s repeated failures to work with others in Parliament to get results for Canadians. He singled out Harper’s broken promises to clean up Liberal-style scandal, make health care a priority, and make life more affordable.
“After five years of Harper, you’re working even harder to keep your family from falling behind, but well-connected insiders are still getting all the breaks. We’ve got to do better. In this election, voting New Democrat means choosing leadership you can trust to focus on your family.”
Jack Layton’s first tour stop will be a rally in Edmonton where New Democrats will build on the 2008breakthrough that saw NDP MP Linda Duncan elected.
