NDP launches new radio ad on HST in BC
VANCOUVER--In the campaign’s final week, New Democrats today launched a new radio ad in British Columbia on the HST.
The new ad reminds voters that only the New Democrats are standing up for British Columbia by pledging to keep the $1.6 billion in HST transfers in the province for vital public services.
“Stephen Harper will take $1.6 billion out of our education and health care if BC votes to scrap the HST,” says the ad. “That’s right, an ultimatum: keep paying the HST or lose doctors and teachers.”
The ad concludes: “With Jack Layton, British Columbia can keep those doctors and teachers no matter which way we vote on the HST.”
As part of the back-room deal to impose the HST on British Columbia without notice or consent, Stephen Harper transferred $1.6 billion to the province as an incentive. If British Columbians vote to scrap the unfair tax in the June referendum, Harper’s Conservatives will take the money back.
Despite massive public opposition, Stephen Harper and Michael Ignatieff both voted to impose the HST on British Columbians in the middle of a recession.
Only New Democrats stood up for British Columbia and voted against the tax. Only New Democrats will ensure that health and education will be protected after the June referendum. And only New Democrats are poised to defeat Conservatives in B.C.
