PORT MOODY MAYOR JOE TRASOLINI TO RUN FOR BC NDP
PORT MOODY–Four-term Port Moody Mayor Joe Trasolini announced his intention to run for the BC NDP in the provincial seat of Port Moody-Coquitlam in an upcoming by-election.
“I’m excited to have an accomplished community leader like Joe Trasolini representing our party in Port Moody,” said Adrian Dix, Leader of the BC NDP. “Joe’s experience as Mayor of Port Moody, including his hard work to deliver the Evergreen Line for his constituents, shows his commitment to this community.”
After serving as a Port Moody City Councillor, Trasolini was elected to the mayor’s office in 1999. In 2004, Port Moody was recognized with a prestigious Livable Communities award.
“I’m pleased with the progress we’ve made in Port Moody during my time as mayor,” said Trasolini. “Now I’m looking forward to being a part of Adrian’s team to make a difference for families in Port Moody-Coquitlam, and all across BC.”
“Joe’s decision to be a New Democrat candidate shows that he believes in our agenda of change and the caliber of our team,” concluded Dix. “We know that given the choice, Port Moody-Coquitlam voters will choose Joe and the BC NDP in the coming by-election.”
Trasolini and Dix were joined at the announcement by Port Coquitlam MLA Mike Farnworth, and Coquitlam-Maillardville MLA Diane Thorne.
Joe Trasolini immigrated to British Columbia in 1963 from his birthplace in Italy. He graduated from the BCIT Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering Technology Program, and worked in the public and private sector. Since 1985, Trasolini has owned and managed a contracting firm based in BC.
In 1996 Trasolini was elected to Port Moody City Council, and in 1999 was elected Mayor. During his four terms in the mayor’s office, Port Moody has received a number of awards for sustainability initiatives and good management practices. Trasolini was the first mayor in British Columbia to institute a weekly open door session, an opportunity for constituents to meet with the mayor and raise issues important to them.
Trasolini served as a Director of Metro Vancouver, and on the Translink Mayor’s Council where he has successfully secured funding for the Evergreen Line Skytrain expansion.
Joe lives in Port Moody with his wife Cecelia Huang.
