Aerospace industry needs action, not talk: NDP
New Democrats urge Conservatives to protect aerospace jobs from reckless cuts
OTTAWA – New Democrats today called on the
Conservatives to pledge more than empty promises to Canada’s vital
aerospace industry, and called on the government not to cut programs,
such as research and development, that support thousands of aerospace
jobs.
“We’re talking about an industry that is the backbone of so many communities, particularly in Quebec,” said New Democrat Science and Technology Critic Hélène LeBlanc. “Talk is not enough, what we need to see is some action.”
LeBlanc stressed that New Democrats will continue to hold Stephen Harper’s Conservatives accountable to ensure their reckless budget cuts do not slash funding or kill jobs in the aerospace industry.
“Research and development programs are so important for ensuring Canada maintains a world-class aerospace industry—they must not be cut,” LeBlanc said. “New Democrats stand with industry leaders. The Conservatives must do the same and protect the aerospace industry from their reckless cuts.”
