Linda Duncan, Alberta's only opposition MP, endorses Dewar for Leader of NDP
January 11th, 2012
EDMONTON – Respected environmentalist, lawyer and Alberta’s only opposition MP, Linda Duncan today endorsed Paul Dewar’s bid to lead Canada’s New Democrats.
“Paul is a respected Parliamentarian, with a record of achieving consensus on critical bills. I have witnessed how he connects with people,” said Duncan (MP, Edmonton-Strathcona). “Paul’s Clean Energy Strategy shows he understands how we can build our economy, creating well-paying jobs and protecting the environment. That’s the kind of leadership Canadians are looking for.”
Duncan endorsed Paul Dewar at a joint press conference to release Dewar's signature policy on building Canada's clean energy future.
Dewar’s plan will help:
“Stephen Harper’s Conservative majority isn’t working for families in Edmonton,” said Dewar. “Linda’s a strong MP and a respected member of our team. With her support we’ll keep building and elect a real majority that’s focused on the things that matter to families here in Edmonton and across the country.”
"Linda Duncan is a true trailblazer and grassroots politician. Her election and re-election in Alberta shows that the NDP can win anywhere in this country and points the way to how we get to government," said Paul Dewar. “Linda Duncan, an international leader on environmental law, will be my Energy and Environment Adviser.”
Duncan was first elected to the House of Commons in 2008. She is an internationally recognized leader in the development and enforcement of environmental law. She won her re-election in 2011 with a strengthened mandate.
